Ocie C. Brown Sr.

PORT GIBSON — Ocie C. Brown Sr. died Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at Claiborne County Hospital in Port Gibson. He was 74.

Mr. Brown was born April 10, 1938, in Bessemer, Ala. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Miles College in Birmingham, Ala., where he played football. He was inducted into the Miles College Hall of Fame. He received a master’s degree from the University of Montevallo and a specialist degree from Alcorn State University. He served as head football coach and track coach at Miles College before moving to Alcorn State University, where he retired after 38 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Webster Sr. and LeGrande Toole Brown; two sisters, Eloise Cotton and Delores Pendleton; two brothers, Webster Brown Jr. and Otis Brown; a daughter, Carla M. Brown; and a stepson, Patrick Isaac.

Survivors include his wife, Artis Isaac Brown; three sons, Dana Brown, Ocie C. Brown Jr. and Justin D. Brown; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oakland Memorial Chapel on the campus of Alcorn State University with the Rev. Willie Tobias officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Bower M.B. Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Cook’s Enterprise Funeral Home in McComb and Saturday at the chapel from 10 a.m. until the service.
