Oscar Hiram Billingsley

BATESVILLE — Oscar Hiram Billingsley died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, in Memphis. He was 80.

Mr. Billingsley was born Jan. 7, 1932, to Robert and Helen Walker Billingsley in Wheeler, Miss. He retired from the Air Force as a technical sergeant, having served in the Vietnam era. He worked on the survey crew for the Mississippi Highway Department’s Project Office, retiring after 22 years as a senior certified engineer technician.

Mr. Billingsley was a Master Mason in the Walton Lodge No. 423 in Walton, Ind., and later joined Panola Mason Lodge No. 66. He was a Mason for more than 51 years. He was a member of Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church in Batesville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Sorek Billingsley; and a brother, Vernon David Billingsley.

He is survived by a daughter, Mellie M. Billingsley of Vicksburg; and a sister, LeeDell Billingsley Dowdle of Senatobia.

Services with full military honors will be at 2 today at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville with the Rev. Lee Graham officiating. Interment will follow at Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Batesville. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service.
