EDWARDS — Services for Josie Mae Mallett will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Old Oak Ridge M.B. Church, 4365 Canada Cross Road in Edwards, with Pastor Vincent Green officiating. Burial will follow at Henry Cemetery under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the church.

Mrs. Mallett died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 79.

She attended Hinds County Public Schools and was a graduate of Utica Institute. She attended Hinds Junior College and was employed at Utica Junior College/Hinds Community College as a secretary for 27 years in the Maintenance/Transportation Department from 1968 to 1995. She was a member of Old Oak Ridge M.B. Church, serving as secretary and as a mother of the church. She was also a member of the Heroines of Jericho No. 394 in Utica and a board member of Henry Cemetery of Edwards.

She was preceded in death by two children, Nelson Mallett and Cora Mallett; her parents, Ruther and Annie Bell Smith; six brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene Mallett; two sons, Eugene O’dell Mallett and Willie Mallett Sr., both of Edwards; three daughters, Annie Miller of Edwards, Barbara Erves of Vicksburg and Joyce Jack of Windermere, Fla.; two brothers, Andrew Smith of Gary, Ind., and James Smith of Chicago; five sisters, Virginia Hubbard of Edwards, Joella Hunter of Gary, Annie Wright of Chicago, Bertha Smith of Indianapolis and Lucy Nichols of Jackson; 13 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends, including Gertrude Mallett of Utica and Linda Smith of Gary.

Pallbearers will be Shedrick Wallace, La’Brone Chiplin Sr., André Wallace, Charles Jordan, Michael Pollard and Ruther Allen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ernest Miller, Keith Miller, Travis Erves, Larry Erves, Willie Mallett Jr., Denzell Erves, Donnell Jack, Tyrone Mallett and Luke Smith.
