Charles Buford Watkins

Charles Buford Watkins died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at home. He was 68.

Mr. Watkins was born in Fort Payne, Ala. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama. He moved to Vicksburg in 1947. He and his wife, Nancy, were owners of Watkins’ Nursery Home and Garden Center until retirement after 30 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Agnes Watkins; and his brother, Joe Watkins.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Watkins of Vicksburg; a daughter, Ashley Watkins Bateman and Robert of New Orleans; two sons, Charles Eric Watkins of Vicksburg and Newell Kent Watkins and his wife, Alice, of Atlanta; a brother, Mike Watkins of Virginia; and three grandchildren, Thi Elizabeth Bateman, Amelia Arizona Bateman and Newell Kent Watkins Jr.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Steve Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 5 until 7 at Glenwood Funeral Home and Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.

Pallbearers will be Harold Blue, Todd Boolos, Jessie Oldham, Bobby Joe Stokes, Neil Brooks and Landy Teller.

Honorary pallbearers will be Hardy Warren and Don Finney.
