Vicksburg coach Tavares Johnson was not pleased with his team, even though the Gators did have a 70-yard scoring drive in the second quarter that made it 23-6, at least briefly.

Madison’s leading rusher, Daniel Goodspeed, had a 13-yard TD run three minutes later to make it 16-0. Goodspeed finished with 91 rushing yards on eight carries. One of the big gains came on a 45-yard run that set up a 1-yard TD pass from Smith to Kelvin Willams to put Madison up 23-0.

Vicksburg came back with its best sustained drive of the game, going 70 yards in 12 plays. Johnathan Tenner scored on a 25-yard keeper. .

Madison bounced back, getting a 1-yard TD run from Smith and a 47-yard interception return from Jeffrey Pate to take a 37-6 halftime lead.

Vicksburg’s defense forced Madison to punt on its first possession of the second half and Pickett had a 20-yard completion to Tenner. But three plays later, he was intercepted for the second time and it was all downhill from there.

Smith led three touchdown drives to finish the rout. He had a 13-yard TD pass to Keith Williams, a 61-yard TD pass to Brandon Moore and a 50-yard run with 6:14 left in the game.
