Zach Morgan’s fourth-down pass attempt to P.J. Lassiter fell awry with 30 seconds left as Porters Chapel fell 24-18 at Heidelberg Academy Friday night.
A win over previously winless Heidelberg Academy would’ve locked up a berth in the playoffs for Porters Chapel (3-5, 2-2 District 4-A) and put them in prime position for a shot at second place in the district and a home playoff game. Even though the Eagles are likely in the postseason despite the loss, they will need help to secure a home playoff game.
“It really does put us behind the eight ball,” PCA coach Wade Patrick said. “We’ve got one more (district game against Prentiss
Christian) and we’ll have to see where we stand. We’ve just got to get back to work on Sunday.”
Running back Peter Harris scored all three PCA touchdowns, giving him 12 touchdowns from scrimmage this season.
Marqueion Milsap threw a touchdown pass with a shade over two minutes left to go to put the Rebels (1-6, 1-2) ahead to stay.
Peter Harris gave the Eagles an early lead, scoring on a 16-yard run on the game’s opening drive.
But the Rebels fought back, as Milsap had a touchdown run to tie the game at 6-all.
Harris answered with a 1-yard run and the Rebels counted with a touchdown right before the halftime to knot the contest again at 12.
Peter Harris hit paydirt for the third time with 11:34 remaining in the fourth.
