A fire that began when a man attempted to light a fireplace damaged a home Thursday night, Vicksburg fire officials said this morning.

No injuries were reported.

The fire at 20 Sunshine Lane, a short road off U.S. 61 North, was reported at about 9:15, Chief Charles Atkins said.

The house is owned by Mary Handy, Atkins said, but he declined to name the man who was the only person in the house at the time the fire broke out.

Flames and smoke could be seen from outside when firefighters arrived, Atkins said. The blaze took about two hours to extinguish, he said.
