LORMAN — A fourth quarter comeback against Texas Southern has Alcorn State eyeing a bigger Tiger.

Alcorn State prepped for next week’s showdown with archrival Jackson State — which, for the first time in 18 years, will be played in Lorman — by beating Texas Southern 34-24 before 10,500 fans on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Alcorn State improved to 4-6 overall and 4-4 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. That was enough to bring a smile to first-year Braves head coach Jay Hopson’s face.

“Someone just told me that it’s the first time in 11 years that Alcorn State has won four conference games in a season,” Hopson said. “All I know is we’re 4-4 in the SWAC and a win next week means we would have a winning season in the league.”
