James G. Horn Sr.

James G. Horn Sr. died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at his residence. He was 94.
Born in Soso, Miss., he was the son of the late Grover Cleveland Horn and Etoile James Horn. Mr. Horn was a longtime resident of Vicksburg and served in World War II in the Army from 1941 to 1946.
He was an agent-manager for Lamar Life Insurance Company for more than 30 years. He was a past member of the Vicksburg Association of Life Underwriters and held every office in the Vicksburg Association including that of president. Mr. Horn served as secretary-treasurer for 12 years and was a member of the Board of Directors for 29 years.
Active in his community, he served on the Zoning Board and Planning Commission for the City of Vicksburg for 36 years. Mr. Horn was on the executive committee of the Warren County Republican Party for 30 years and served on the Board of Directors for Lake Claiborne for 33 years and as president for 11 years. He was the first governor of the Loyal Order of Moose in Vicksburg, serving two terms. Mr. Horn was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce serving as president for a term and later as state treasurer.
Mr. Horn was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church for more than 60 years where he served as senior warden for a number of years.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Dorothy McCaleb Horn; a son, Jim Horn Jr. of Port Gibson; two daughters, Susan H. Webb (Tom) of Fort Smith, Ark., and Marilyn H. Hayward (Sonny) of Grenada; two grandsons, Joel Webb (Margie) and Ragan Hayward (Lauren); a granddaughter, Perry Anne Thimmes (Paul); a great-granddaughter, Maycie Wilbanks; five great-grandsons, Gavin Webb, Hunter Webb, Lawson Webb, Wagner Thimmes and Glenn Thimmes; and one brother, Dr. Karl B. Horn (Ruth).
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a grandson, Neil Chalon Webb; and a sister, Katherine King.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Sam Godfrey, rector, officiating. Burial will be at Wintergreen Cemetery in Port Gibson under the direction of Riles Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday at Christ Episcopal Church Parish Hall from 9:30 a.m. until the service. Pallbearers will be Joel Webb, Gavin Webb, Hunter Webb, Tom Webb, Ragan Hayward, Paul Thimmes, Sonny Hayward and Jim Horn Jr.
