Verna “Dean” Johnson Davis died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at River Region Medical Center. She was 70.

Ms. Davis was born on April 20, 1942. She was a former sitter and nurse and a member of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Johnson and Theresa Akers Lacey; daughter, Melva T. Buchanan; sisters, Luginne “Jean” Twyman and Annell Johnson; and a brother, Willie Johnson Jr.

Survivors include a son, Elwin Johnson of Vicksburg; four brothers, Mazique O. Johnson of Chicago, Jesse M. Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y., the Rev. Rudy L. Smith of Vicksburg and Stoner E. Smith of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two sisters, Melva J. Johnson of Columbia, S.C., and Gladys Smith of Brookhaven; and other relatives and friends, including Jerome “Wayne” Nickson, Katie Larry and Laraleen Green, all of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Herman Sylvester officiating, assisted by the Rev. Rudy Smith. Visitation and viewing will be at the funeral home from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday with family present from 6 until 7.
