Marie Denton Mosley

Marie Denton Mosley of Vicksburg joined her Heavenly Father on Jan. 23, 2014.
She lived 96 years in God’s service, never knowing a sacrifice too great. Her good-hearted, generous deeds were beyond measure, and mostly known by only those to whom she gave.
She was a lifelong member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church, a dedicated employee with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and above all, was a marvelous and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, homemaker and cook.
She was a natural in the kitchen, measuring in “dibbles” and “pinches” to hand-make her creamed corn and famous pound cake.
She enjoyed playing piano, teaching Sunday school, and traveling to the Holy Land. Marie will be greatly missed by her family, for whom she was a leader, exemplifying Christian values in her everyday life. She descends, on her mother’s side, from a prominent Lauderdale County antebellum family that included notable early Methodist ministers.
Quite proudly, she would tell of their strength in the face of religious persecution, their journey to America, and their successes despite having left everything behind.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert F. Denton and Ursula Meador; her husband, Paul Myers Mosley; her sisters, Elise Thompson of Meridian and Hazel Floore of Marion; her beloved granddaughter, Elisabeth Marie Mosley of Clinton; and her son-in-law, Steve Johnston Jr., for whom she lovingly cared during his lengthy illness.
She is survived by her brother, Charles Meador Denton of Shorewood, Ill.; her three children, Laine Mosley Moore (Marlin) of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Kenneth Paul Mosley (Teresa) of Clinton, and Sherry Mosley Johnston of Brandon; as well as four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, to whom she was affectionately known as “Ree.”
The family would like to thank Dr. Heintzelman, Barbara Thompson, Linda Burton, and Rosa Broome for their loving care of Marie.
Visitation will be at Sebrell Funeral Home, 425 Northpark Drive, Ridgeland, on Wednesday Jan. 29, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Services will be noon Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Crawford Street United Methodist Church, with visitation one hour before.
A graveside service will be at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to the Community Food Pantry of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.
