Downtown living was the theme of a limited open house this past week for redevelopment of space in the 1400 block of Washington Street.

Realtors and local media viewed a housing unit planned at 1412 Washington St. by Live, Work, Play Downtown Vicksburg. Set to open in March, the upscale Warehouse apartment complex will house 17 tenants, said businessman and co-owner Daryl Hollingsworth.

“The project is going good. We’re even doing things ahead of time,” said Hollingsworth. “We want to bring more people downtown. We think that if you live downtown that you would be in walking distance of churches, restaurants, and people can walk to work. The more people we have, the better off that we are,” said Hollingsworth.

The complex is planned in the same place where The Ware House apartment and lounge complex operated from 2007 to 2009. A wine bar has been planned as part of Hollingsworth’s latest venture, according to applications filed last year with the Alcohol Beverage Control Board.

Hollingsworth said he wants to add to the quality of life for Vicksburg residents.

“When you breathe new life into an old building, you can do whatever you want to do,” he said. “It doesn’t have to be what  it was in the past. We want to improve things in Vicksburg. There is no reason why Vicksburg can’t be bigger than what it is. We do not see any limits to what Vicksburg can become.”

Hollingsworth said an open house for the public is in the works.
