Students to sing the blues at library

The Warren County-Vicksburg Public Library’s African American History Committee is sponsoring a “Homework Blues” contest on Saturday, Feb. 22.
Teams of six students apiece in grades K-12 may submit registration forms for the contest by 5 p.m. Friday. Registration forms and contest guidelines are available at the library. Teams must also have a sponsor.
The entry musts be written by the team should be between two to five minutes long. The teams are allowed to bring instruments or recorded music to which they will perform their song. Local musicians and artists will judge each entry, with the winning team to meet and perform their song with blues artist Bobby Rush and his band. The performance will be videotaped for Vicksburg’s TV23.
Songs entered are intended for an audience of all ages. Any profane or violent lyrics will result in the team’s immediate disqualification from the contest, according to contest rules.
Every team must turn in a written or typed version of their song lyrics at the program. The teams are allowed to bring instruments or recorded music to which they will perform their song.
A reception follows the contest program.
