JACKSON — Robert Hughes Mendel Jr., a longtime resident of Jackson, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014.
A service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Columb’s Episcopal Church, 550 Sunnybrook Road, Ridgeland,. The family will receive visitors at the parish hall from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Hughes, known to many of his friends as “Doc,” was born June 22, 1943, to Robert Hughes Mendel and Sally Abernathy.
He graduated from Cooper High School in Vicksburg and attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Millsaps College. He worked as a systems analyst and also as a professional bass player.
He is preceded in death by his parents and survived by his brothers, John Mendel, Tom Mendel, Fred Mendel and William Keyes; a sister, Judy McAllister; and nephew Ashley Mendel.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to the YANA Club 555 Hartfield, Jackson, MS, where “Doc” was former president, or your favorite charity.
