The Vikings made sure it was never going to be an issue.

David Robinson scored 16 points, Gerald Glass added 12, and the Vikings beat Murrah 53-42 on Friday night to finally clinch the regular-season division title and top seed in next week’s tournament.

WC (16-10, 5-1 Division 4-6A) beat Murrah (12-13, 3-3) by 15 points Thursday night in Vicksburg, then needed only to avoid losing by 12 or more in the rematch Friday in Jackson. WC jumped out to an 11-point lead at halftime and held the defending Class 6A champions at arm’s length the rest of the way.

Warren Central will play Greenville-Weston in the first round of the divisio

n tournament Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Murrah.

Murrah, the tournament host, will play Clinton in a first-round game on Tuesday night. The championship game is next Friday.

Warren Central headed into the postseason on a sour note.

The Lady Vikes mustered little offense and were blown out by Murrah (18-5, 3-3 Division 4-6A) for the second straight night Friday in Jackson. Decada Taylor and Cretesha Kelly were WC’s leading scorers, with just four points apiece.

WC has lost 10 of its last 12 games heading into the league tournament.

Warren Central (7-18, 0-6) will play top-seeded Clinton in the first round of the division tournament Monday at 6 p.m. at Murrah.

The other first-round game will feature Murrah and Greenville-Weston on Tuesday night at 6.

Connor Smith had 24 points and five assists to lead St. Aloysius past archrival Cathedral.

St. Al finished second in Division 7-1A and earned a first-round bye in next week’s league tournament at Bogue Chitto. The Flashes will play Thursday at 8:30 p.m. against either Bogue Chitto or the Mississippi School for the Deaf.

Julie Mabry scored 13 points, but St. Al lost in its regular-season finale Friday against Cathedral.
