Homework Blues contest cancelled

Lack of participation has caused the cancellation of a blues-themed music contest that was to be held at Warren County Vicksburg Library, organizers said Tuesday.
Jennifer A. Smith, the library’s assistant director, confirmed the cancellation of the Homework Blues Contest. The event was designed for students grade K-12 to pick teams of six, write a two- to five-minute song about school and submit it.
The Homework Blues Contest fell victim to last week’s cold weather, which affected most local students’ school schedules, event planner and community advocate Karen Frederick said.
“I think what happened was the teachers were thrown off by the bad weather,” Frederick said. “That has increased the students school workload and that is why I believe that they didn’t have the time to participate.”
Frederick said organizers will try to hold the contest again this summer or fall.
The winning song would have been performed on Vicksburg’s TV23 by blues artist Bobby Rush and his band.
