Alcorn State rallies to beat Alabama State

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — LaAntwan Luckett and Octavius Brown scored 16 points apiece as Alcorn State came from behind to defeat Alabama A&M 64-56 Monday night.

Alabama A&M held a comfortable 35-23 halftime lead and was ahead 43-32 when Luckett hit a 3-point jumper, Marquis Vance made a jump shot and Stephan Raquil dunked to close the gap to 45-39. Later, Devante Hampton made a 3-pointer and Josh Nicholas followed with a dunk to give Alcorn State its first lead of the game at 48-47 lead with 8:02 remaining. Then Alabama A&M was held to only nine points for the rest of the game.

Alcorn State outrebounded the Bulldogs 43-26.

Hampton had 12 points and Vance added 10 for Alcorn State (11-16, 8-7 Southwestern Athletic Conference).

Nicholas West led Alabama A&M (10-14, 7-7) with 13 points and Demarquelle Tabb added 10.

 Delta Devils snap losing streak

GREENWOOD — James Currington scored a career-high 20 points to help Mississippi Valley State end a five game losing streak, as the Delta Devils beat Prairie View A&M 75-69 on Monday night.

Currington hit 8 of 13 field goal attempts and had eight rebounds for Mississippi Valley State (9-19, 5-10 Southwestern Athletic Conference). Anthony McDonald knocked down 3 of 7 3-point attempts, totaling 15 points, and Jeffrey Simmons added 12.

McDonald also had four assists, while Currington grabbed eight rebounds.

The game was tied at 36 at the half. MVSU quickly took a 47-38 lead and pushed it to 67-54 with 3:33 remaining. The Panthers did have a late run to cut it to six, but it was too late.

MVSU outrebounded Prairie View 47-37.

Montrael Scott had 14 points and Demondre Chapman and Louis Munks had 10 apiece for Prairie View (8-18, 6-8). Chapman also had eight rebounds.
