Rep. Denton to hold town hall meeting

The first of what state Rep. Oscar Denton hopes will be a regular series of town hall meetings in his district takes place next Thursday.

An update on the current session of the Legislature and a q-and-a session begins at 5:30 p.m. March 6 in the Warren County circuit courtroom, on the second floor of the courthouse. Denton had first mentioned doing regular town hall meetings on the doings of state government during his campaign to succeed George Flaggs Jr. in House District 55.

The program will last about 90 minutes, Denton said Tuesday. Funding for public Education and taxes are expected to come up, but no singular topic is the theme of the meeting, he said.

Denton sits on the Corrections, Municipalities, Workforce Development and Youth and Family Affairs committees in the House.

Denton, 60, defeated four opponents in a special election Nov. 5 to fill the unexpired term of George Flaggs Jr., who retired from the Legislature after winning the Vicksburg mayor’s race in June.
