Two held in metal theft

Two Vicksburg men accused of stealing scrap metal were held without bail this morning.

Christopher Dart, 31, who lives on Speed Street, and Darrous Liggins, 33, who lives on Ethel Street, were arrested at 12:45 a.m. today in the 1800 block of Eisenhower DriveĀ  by patrolman James Williams, said Vicksburg police Lt. Sandra Williams, who is not related to James Williams.

The two men are accused of breaking into the former Parkview Region Medical Center, 100 McAuley Drive, and stealing a carload of copper, Lt. Williams said.

Dart and Liggins were at police headquarters this morning awaiting their initial court appearances.

 

Woman free on bail in burglary

A Jackson woman accused of auto burglary at a Vicksburg casino was free on bail this morning.

Jamila S. Birden, 22, of Jackson surrendered to Jackson police Wednesday on a warrant for auto burglary, Vicksburg police Lt. Sandra Williams said.

Vicksburg police took her into custody at 2:30 p.m., Williams said.

Birden is accused of stealing a purse in June from a vehicle at Ameristar Casino, 4116 Washington St., Williams said.

Birden was taken to the Warren County Jail where she posted $7,500 bail and was released.
