John Morgan McRight provided the pitching, Carlisle Koestler the pop, and Warren Central started the season on a high note Friday.
Koestler drove in the go-ahead runs with a two-run single in the top of the eighth inning to propel the Vikings to a 3-1 win over Terry in the season opener. Koestler finished 2-for-4 and made a winner of McRight, who had a stellar outing on the mound.
McRight allowed one unearned run on three hits, and struck out nine in seven innings. He left with the game tied, but got the win when the Vikings scored in the eighth. Cameron Upton threw a scoreless eighth to pick up the save.
McRight also had a hit at the plate, and Hunter Bell was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
WC will open its home schedule today at 1 p.m. against Ridgeland.

Porters Chapel 17, Tallulah Academy 5
Porters Chapel broke out the bats and battered Tallulah Academy into submission.
The Eagles collected 15 hits — 13 of them by Steven Busma, Jonah Masterson and Brandon Beck — and had their best offensive performance of the year in a six-inning, run-rule shortened victory over the Trojans. PCA (2-3) fell behind 3-0 after one inning, but scored five runs in the second and six more in the third to surge ahead.
Busma went 5-for-5 with three RBIs, and Beck was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Masterson went 3-for-5 with a triple, five RBIs and three runs scored.
Sam Kirk also had an RBI double, Jordan Locke drove in two runs and Taylor Rushing drove in one.
“We hit the ball pretty good as a team. That’s the best hitting we’ve done so far,” PCA coach Chris Mixon said. “We’ve been playing pretty tough teams, and tonight was a good night to relax.”
PCA will host Canton Academy today at 3 p.m.

St. Aloysius 10, Madison-St. Joe 1
St. Aloysius began a season it hopes will end with a state championship, with a performance worthy of one.
Drake Dorbeck, Lane Hynum and Ben Welp all went 3-for-4 with two RBIs  as the Flashes hammered Madison-St. Joseph in their season opener Friday. St. Al trailed 1-0 after the second inning, then scored multiple runs in each of its next four at-bats to blow the game open.
Hynum had a double, scored two runs and drove in two. Welp also had a double, while Jacob Breeden scored two runs and Matthew Foley scored four. Seven of St. Al’s nine starters either had a hit, scored a run, or drove in a run.
Pat Murphy allowed one unearned run in five innings of relief to get the win. He walked three batters, allowed three hits and struck out six.
St. Al will play Hartfield Academy today at Madison-St. Joseph, then will open the home schedule Monday night against Central Private.
