Bradley Roney sent Southern Miss on the road to victory, then brought it home Sunday.

Roney hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, then pitched the last 11⁄3 innings to earn his fifth save of the season as the Golden Eagles beat Missouri 2-1 on Sunday.

Roney saved the win for Cameron Giannini, who allowed one run in 72⁄3 innings. Giannini (1-1) allowed four hits, walked two batters and struck out four. Roney struck out three of the five batters he faced, including Kendall Keeton to escape a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Roney’s save was the 23rd of his career, moving him into a tie for third place on the school’s all-time list.

Missouri (6-7) got its lone run in the eighth when Jake Ivory reached on an error and scored on another error later in the inning.

Roney started the game as the designated hitter and went 3-for-4. After Dylan Burdeaux led off the fourth inning with a single, Roney homered down the left field line to give Southern Miss a 2-0 lead. It was the first time Southern Miss led in the three-game series.

That was all the offense the Golden Eagles (7-9) could muster against a parade of Missouri pitchers. Starter Eric Anderson and six relievers combined to allow just six hits and one walk. Missouri’s bullpen only gave up two hits and didn’t allow a run over the last five innings.

Southern Miss will return home for a pair of midweek games against New Orleans on Tuesday and South Alabama on Wednesday, then hit the road to start Conference USA play on Friday with a three-game series at Marshall.
