Barbara Way Pace, born July 10, 1929, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2014, with her daughter, Reneé, by her side.
Lovingly called “Gran” by her grandchildren and great-grandson, she was the eldest child of Richard Carpenter Way II and Beulah Barr Way.
Barbara was an active member of Bowmar Baptist Church (previously Bowmar Avenue Baptist Church) for more than 60 years, where she was a regular part of her Sunday school class. Before retiring in Vicksburg in 1988, she worked for the Social Security Administration for 32 years.
After retirement, she enjoyed spending time along the Alabama Gulf Coast each summer with the women in her life. She also had a passion for shoes, fashion, and home décor, which she practiced beautifully in her own home as each season changed.
She moved to Fairhope, Ala., one of her favorite cities along the Coast, in 2012 to be closer to her daughter and the beaches she so loved.
She was preceded in death by both parents, and siblings Betty E. Way, Mary Louise Perritt and Anthony Barr Way.
She is survived by siblings Richard Carpenter “R.C.” Way III of Eagle Lake, Dixie Jean Kelly of Kilbourne, La., and Wren C. Way of Vicksburg; as well as by nieces and nephews.
She also leaves her daughter, Reneé Gee Duffy of Foley, Ala.; three granddaughters, Kristen Brown of Pensacola, Fla., Taylor Bayliss of White Bluff, Tenn., and Jill Duffy of Foley; and her great-grandson, Parker Brown of Pensacola, Fla.
A viewing will be held at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg, on Thursday, March 20, 2014, from noon until the hour of service at 1p.m. Flowers will be greatly appreciated. The family requests that donations in lieu of flowers be made to the local charity of your choice or to Oakland Place in Fairhope, Ala.
