Joyce Logue Atkins, 82, of Vicksburg, died Thursday, March 20, 2014, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Mrs. Atkins was a native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She was the daughter of the late Otto A. Logue, Sr. and Nan Williams Logue. She was married to M.L. Atkins for sixty years.
During the first 20 years, she was a homemaker. When her children got older, she worked in the administrative staff of the Vicksburg Warren County School District for 20 years. After retirement, Joyce and M.L. founded Atkins Railroad Consulting Co. and traveled the country providing their consulting services to the U.S. Corps of Engineers.
Joyce was an active member of Hawkins United Methodist Church where she was a member of The Becomers Sunday school class.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Marshall Lee Atkins Jr.; and a sister, Mary Newman (R.J.).
Survivors include her husband, Marshall Lee Atkins Sr.; a daughter, Nancy Atkins Renfroe (Keith) of Vicksburg; a son, Robert Lee “Bob” Atkins (Barbara) of Madison; four grandchildren, Lindsey Atkins Smith (Brant), Leslie Renfroe Dill (Michael), Brad Atkins and Daniel Renfroe; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Otto Logue Jr., (Bernice), and R. A. Logue (Betty) both of Vicksburg; and a sister, Patsy Barnes (Oscar), of Birmingham, Ala.
Services will be Monday, March 24, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Susannah Carr officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Renfroe, Brad Atkins, Perry Brown, Barry Beard, Emmette Myers, Brant Smith, Michael Dill, Matthew Brown.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hawkins United Methodist Church, Warren County Habitat for Humanity or Good Shepherd Community Center.
The family would like to thank the staff of Vicksburg Convalescent Home, University Medical Center and Methodist Rehabilitation for their loving care.
