As a child growing up I was impatient and always eager to get the latest greatest toy or gizmo that was out there. My mom would always tell me to wait, be patient and that patience was a virtue. As an adult I still have that urge to get the newest iphone, Apple gizmo, or other electronic device as soon as it is available. I’ve learned to control that and to be patient and wait. One thing that helps is the price, the newest and latest greatest is always expensive and if you wait just a little while the price will drop significantly.
Another thing that my mom used to say is that good things always come to those that wait. Now I know that she didn’t invent that saying, but there is truth to it.
My first marriage ended in divorce and was one that probably never should have happened. I was pretty set against ever getting married again and had decided that I would wait for the right girl to come along, but would be okay if it didn’t happen.
Nearly eight years passed before the right girl did come along and lo and behold I had known her since we were kids. There’s a lot you can learn about yourself in eight years and boy was that an education.
I learned I was stubborn, hardheaded and not easy to live with. I’m set in my ways and a whole lot more like my dad than I care to admit. I have always had a lot of respect for my dad, but never really a true understanding of him until much later in life.
My wife is beautiful, smart, and a wonderful mother to our son. She was definitely worth the wait and a better woman than I truly deserved. She has been a blessing to me in so many ways and I know that sometimes she feels overlooked. After all, I’m not easy to live with, but I do love her with all my heart.
The Bible says in Hebrews 6:15 “And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise.” Abraham waited on God’s promise for 25 years.
If there’s something you are waiting on, just be patient and hold on a little longer. Aristotle said “patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.”
How sweet it is indeed.
