On Friday, January 10, 2014, Georgia Douglas LeMay passed away peacefully at the age of 94.

Born and raised in Prescott, Ark., Georgia grew up working in the family cotton fields with her parents and three sisters until early bouts of asthma kept her inside where she learned to cook. Always remembered for her cooking, she could make any meal seem like a feast.

In 1946, Georgia moved to Vicksburg where she married Tandy LeMay and raised her two sons, Jim and Chuck. She was a strong woman, and as her family would say. She was sometimes stubborn in her ways, but there was never any doubt that her family came first.

She remained strong after losing Jim in 1989 and Tandy in 1994, and bravely had the courage to meet new challenges when she moved to Oceanside, Calif. in 2002 to be near her remaining son. Very independent, she tried to never be a burden to anyone, and of course, she never was.

Life wasn’t always rosy and certainly not easy for Georgia, but she pulled it all together. She was an avid baseball fan who enjoyed watching her favorite team, the San Diego Padres. She also loved flowers and gardening.

Funeral services for Georgia will be at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg on Saturday, March 29, 2014. A short visitation will be held from 11 a.m to 12:45 p.m. followed by a graveside service at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.
