Josh Sterling had a pair of hits and three RBIs, and Jekori Reed had a two-run double as Vicksburg (5-6, 3-0 Division 4-5A) kept its hold on first place by routing Lanier (1-5-1, 0-3).

“It’s nice to be on top early, but it counts at the end,” VHS coach Ryan Grey said. “We still have six district games left and are going to have to fight to get the crown.”

John Plummer added two hits for the Gators, and Lee Middleton had a double. Tyler Smith struck out seven batters and allowed one hit over four innings to get the win.
