Bovina
• Our Bovina Giant pledge leaders last week were Nick Shelton, Eli Shiers, Zelmyra Singleton, Tyler Stafford, Dalton Windham, Ashtin Wallace, Angel Thompson, Brian Kent, Morgan Alexander and Saylee Brantley.
• Our Bovina Buck leaders were Mrs. Figures’ second grade class and Mrs. Shelton’s sixth-grade class.
• Mrs. Gordon’s first-graders compared fractions by making fraction flipbooks.  Mrs. Gordon’s  students also made main idea and details graphic organizers about how they used good manners. The students then wrote paragraphs about how they used good manners.
• Mrs. McBride’s kindergarteners made compound word flipbooks when reviewing compound words. Mrs. McBride’s class also made a main idea flipbook.

Bowmar Avenue
• 555 books were donated to Bowmar classrooms in honor of current 4th graders obtaining highest reading scores in the state on the MCT test last year!

• Anna Kay Moen, third-year medical student at UMC, spoke to Kelda Bailess’ fifth-graders about tobacco use.
• Rick Shields from Vicksburg Parks and Recreation worked with the fifth- and sixth-graders on the basics of tennis.
Dana Road
• Dana Road Elementary received the Value Added award at the PREPS conference last week.
• Our students and staff had a great time celebrating good behavior with our magic show put on by magician Dorian LaChance.
• Dana Road Students attended a play at VHS this week. They saw “Annie”

Hawkins Pre-school
• Mrs.Deborah’s Class  studied the letter “X” and made their own x-ray. The class looked at a real x-ray while talking about why we have x-rays. Mrs. Sue’s  Class studied the letter “W”,  had fun with worm races, then went fishing with the worms.
•  Mrs. Charlene’s  class studied the zoo, animals making marbled zebras, party-blower elephants and read the book “Never Ever Shout in a Zoo”. Mrs. Morgan’s Class talked about spring, made caterpillars out of handprints and read the book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.”
• Mrs. Marcia and Mrs. Selina’s two year olds had fun with nursery rhymes.  They enjoyed talking about spring and learning about caterpillars.
• Mrs. Denise’s toddler class made thumb print hyacinths to go with the spring unit.

Redwood

• Parent volunteer Dr. Jackie Pettway spoke to sixth graders about the field of engineering and her work at the Corps of Engineers.
• Honor Choir students participated in the District-Wide Choral Concert Tuesday with visiting clinician, Mary Moak

Sherman Avenue
• Sherman Avenue will host “Family Reading Night,” on Tuesday, April 1st, from 5p.m. to 7p.m. in the cafeteria and library. There will be numerous reading and art activities in the cafeteria and parents and students will have the opportunity to shop at the Scholastic Book Fair in the library, which will also be open to students, for shopping, all throughout the week. A slice of pizza and a soft drink may also be purchased for $1.00.
• Our third grade students have the opportunity to be selected to attend a field trip, weekly, during Lent. Students must choose to act with positive behavior and integrity to be selected by their teacher. If chosen, students attend Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and the Annual Lenten Art Series. Students get to see and learn about a historic church right here in Vicksburg, while enjoying entertainment by various local artists.

• Puppy Buck Winners for this week: Jamya Austin, Dylan Bourne, Kemarie Grey, Alana McBride, Takiya Newsome, Jashun Ross, Veonna Sellers and Tonny Wash.
• Helen Ashley’s GATES students attended the Scientific Circus in Petal, MS and toured the Mississippi Military Museum at Camp Shelby. • Sherman Avenue faculty/staff members Emily Emerson, Karen Fortner, Desi Goodson and Jennifer Stringer were “thrown fish” for the week, in recognition of their behavior that best exemplified the FISH! Philosophies of play, make their day, be there and choose your attitude.

Vicksburg Intermediate School

• VIS enjoyed a PBIS Basketball Shootout Reward on Monday.  Students who had earned 60 Gator bucks were allowed to attend. Students with outstanding achievement on the Case 21 tests chosen to be on the teams are Angelina Kackley, Mason Watts, Darrius Burrell, Trinitee Odom, Taylor O’Leary, David Spivey, Kiara Jones, Kendal West, Chris Winston, Kishon Patel, Jada Banks, Le’Aja Seymon, Edward Jones, Alyssa Wiley, Zaria Johnson, Dearius Harris, Edmond Monroe, Christopher Rader, Clyde Stinson, Marquasia Smith, Jashun Simon, Ariah Pendleton, Elliot Ferguson, Christopher Williams, Khya Gaines, Viraj Patel, Staci Foster, Erickah Tucker, Matthew McDuffy, Mozeke Crockett, Taegan Guice and Shakira Mack.

• Parents and students are encouraged to attend Gator Math Night, Thursday at 6 p.m. Parents and students will practice skills and learn strategies to help students improve math scores. Students must  be accompanied by a parent.
• Gator Read Night has been moved to April 8 at 6 p.m.. Students must be accompanied by a parent. Students will be able to read books and take tests while parents learn strategies to assist their students in reading.

Warrenton Elementary
• The Pledge of Allegiance and School Creed Captains for last week were the following students: Bobbi Sorrells, Shylo Brown, Tavaria Johnson, Jairus Cobbs, Kristine Tillett, Kevin Sylvester, Karla Rojas, Mary Ellen Dunaway, Ian Hogan, and Tommy Bester.
• Warrenton students and faculty enjoyed the Vicksburg High performance of Annie last week! The students put on a great show!
• Thank you to all parents who attended Parent Night on Monday. We appreciate your support.
• Thank you also to those who attended the All District Honor Choir performance Tuesday.

Warren Central
• Students who would like their poetry, short stories, drawings, etc. published in the WC Literary Magazine should drop them off in room 303 or 305 by Monday. All entries must be done on lineless paper. For further information please see Mrs. T. Bell in room 303.
• Prom tickets will be on sale during all 3 lunches. A table will be set up in between the buildings and in rooms 401 and 404. Ticket costs are $20 for seniors and $30 for all others. The end date for the sale of tickets will be April 3rd.
• Any student who is not currently enrolled, but is interested in being in choir for the 2014, 2015 school year needs to sign up in the choir room with Mrs. Robertson or Mr. Walker by Monday, March 31st. When you sign up you will be given information about each choir- including Madrigals and Total Sound.
• Preliminary auditions for Madrigals will be held on Monday, March 31st from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. in the choir room. If you are auditioning for Madrigals, you must pick up a piece of music to learn for the audition. Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, April 1st at 3:00 p.m.
