Mississippi State’s team approach led to a milestone series victory.

Trevor Fitts, Jacob Lindgren and Jonathan Holder combined for 14 strikeouts and held Arkansas to one run Sunday, helping the Bulldogs win 5-1 in the series finale in Starkville.

It’s the third consecutive series victory for Mississippi State (20-10, 6-3 Southeastern Conference), which marks the first time since 2003 that the team has won its first three league series.

“Every series win is a good step. We’re just going to take it one step at a time. Hopefully we’ll be able to take three next week, but right now we’re always happy with two,” said MSU senior designated hitter Alex Detz, who drove in three runs.

Lindgren (4-0) got the win with a stellar four-inning relief stint. He gave up one hit, didn’t walk a batter, and struck out eight.

Fitts started and pitched the first 3 1/3 innings, and Holder worked the last 1 2/3 for his fourth save of the season. Fitts and Holder struck out three batters apiece.

“You’ve got to tip your hat to (Lindgren). He had his stuff, for sure. It’s definitely a different type of pitcher than what we saw at the start of the game. He did a really nice job,” Arkansas third baseman Bobby Wernes said.

Lindgren entered the game in the fourth inning with runners at first and third. He got out of the jam with a popped-up bunt and a strikeout, and went on to retire the first 12 batters he faced.

“It’s just like you’re on cruise control in the car. You’re cruising and don’t even think about it,” Lindgren said. “(Catcher) Gavin Collins called a good game, blocked a lot of balls, so you have to give a lot of credit to him.”

The bulk of Mississippi State’s offense came from Detz. He hit a two-run home run in the first inning, and drove in another run with a ground out in the seventh.

Wes Rea drove in another run with an RBI single in the fifth inning, and Derrick Armstrong had a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Rea finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Jake Vickerson scored two runs.

Brian Anderson was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Arkansas (17-10, 4-5).
