CRIME REPORT: Armed robber hits motel

An armed robber was on the lam this morning after stealing “a substantial amount of cash” from Dixiana Motel, Vicksburg police Lt. Sandra Williams said.

At 8 a.m. Monday, a black man about 6 feet tall and dressed in blue pants and a white shirt walked in the motel and demanded the cash from the motel at 4041 S. Washington St., Williams said.

The robber also stole two cordless phones.

“I assume he stole the phones to keep the clerk from calling 911,” Williams said.

Anyone with information about the robbery is encouraged to call Vicksburg police at 601-636-2511 or Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 601-355-8477. Callers to Crime Stoppers remain anonymous and do not have to testify in court.

Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of a felony suspect.

 

Cash missing in two break-ins

Cash and electronics were missing this morning following two break-ins at restaurants Monday.

At 2:15 a.m. Monday, about $400 was reported stolen from Bop’s Frozen Custard, 100 Holt Collier Drive, after the drive’ through window was shattered, Vicksburg police Lt. Sandra Williams said.

At 10:44 a.m., $500, an AT&T cellphone and the monitor from the security camera system were reported stolen from Asian Kitchen, 1800 South Frontage Road, Williams said.

The front glass door was smashed during the robbery, Williams said.

 

Arson suspected in business fire

Arson is suspected in Saturday fires that damaged a Clay Street business and two cars parked on Vine Street, Vicksburg police Lt. Sandra Williams said.

She said police responding to an alarm at Sun Beauty Supply, 1500 Clay St., found the business’ front glass door shattered and the inside of the building on fire. The Vicksburg Fire Department extinguished the fire and damage was contained to the inside of the building.

About 10 minutes later, two cars, a 2002 Buick LeSabre and a 1994 Chevrolet Camaro, were reported on fire in the 1000 block of Vine Street. Williams said the fires are believed to be related, and no arrests have been made.

 

Electronics hot in home burglaries

Electronics and a watch were missing this morning following two residential burglaries in Vicksburg.

At 1:30 p.m. a Michael Kors watch was reported stolen from a home in the 100 block of Belva Drive, Vicksburg police Lt. Sandra Williams said.

Two televisions were also removed from the home but were recovered, she said.

At 4 p.m., a 39-inch Emerson TV, a 50-inch LG TV, a pair of Prada shoes, a jar of change, a wallet, and an air conditioning unit were reported stolen from a home in the 2000 block of Ford Street, Williams said.

 

Truck missing in theft

A truck was missing this morning following an auto theft Monday on Rodenbaugh Drive.

At 7 p.m. a 2004 Chevrolet truck with tag number B103AU547 was reported missing from the single-block street running north of North Frontage Road, Vicksburg police Lt. Sandra Williams said.

 

ATV reported swiped in county

A 2001 Honda 4-wheeler was reported missing from a home in the 9500 block of Halls Ferry Road, Warren County Sheriff’s Department records show.

The vehicle was valued at $2,000.
