An attempted robber was on the lam this morning after demanding cash from the desk clerk at a motel Thursday night.

At about 11:20 p.m., a black man in his early to mid 20s entered the Scottish Inn, 3955 East Clay St., and asked for a room, Lt. Troy Kimble said.

The man told the clerk he needed to return to his car for money and came back with a gray scarf wrapped around his face, produced a gun and demanded money, Kimble said.
