It took a lot of extra work and one huge comeback, but Southern Miss kept its series winning streak intact Sunday.

The Golden Eagles rallied for four runs in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game, then got an RBI single by Nick Dawson in the 10th to win it as they beat UAB 8-7.

Southern Miss (21-16, 10-5 Conference USA) won its fifth consecutive league series and moved into a tie with UAB (24-12, 10-5) for second place in C-USA.

Rice (26-12, 13-5), which swept a three-game series from Tulane this weekend, is three games ahead of both teams in the win column.

Southern Miss plays Rice in a three-game series in Hattiesburg April 25-27.

Southern Miss trailed 7-3 entering the ninth inning Sunday, but scored four runs — all with two outs — to tie the game and send it to extra innings.

After a leadoff walk and a hit batter, Breck Kline delivered an RBI single to cut the deficit to 7-4. Another hit batter loaded the bases, and Tim Lynch cleared them with a double to right field to tie it up.

In the top of the 10th inning, Austin Roussel and Mason Robbins both drew two-out walks, and Roussel scored the go-ahead run on Dawson’s single to center.

Southern Miss reliever Ryan Milton got the win by pitching the last three innings. He allowed one hit, no runs, and struck out two.

“What can you say?” UAB coach Brian Shoop said. “Walk one and hit two in the ninth and bring their best hitter to the plate. Credit to a really good hitter in Lynch, who was really hot this weekend and delivered a big two-out double for them. Walk two in the 10th to allow one hit and a single to beat you. The whole game that was how they scored.”

Arkansas 10, LSU 4

Blake Baxendale hit a grand slam in the first inning, Eric Fisher hit a two-run homer during a four-run rally in the fifth, and Arkansas (22-15, 7-8 Southeastern Conference) avoided a series sweep by pounding LSU (27-9-1, 8-6-1).

Baxendale finished the game 2-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs scored. Andrew Benintendi was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Chris Olver (4-3) worked around seven walks in seven innings to earn the win.

LSU only had four hits and had its seven-game winning streak snapped.

LSU will play Southern Miss Tuesday night in Metairie, La.

Alabama State 12, Alcorn State 1

Emmanuel Marrero went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs as Alabama State (28-13) pummeled Alcorn State (6-31) in their series finale in Lorman.

Tyler Howe allowed two hits and one run, and struck out six in five innings to earn the win for Alabama State.

Alcorn’s Jonathan Morales (0-5) allowed 10 runs — only five earned — on 10 hits and seven walks, and was charged with the loss.

Alabama 4, Auburn 3

Casey Hughston went 3-for-5, with his last hit a two-out, walk-off RBI doublethat lifted Alabama (24-11, 10-5 SEC) over Auburn (21-16, 6-9).

Alabama won the last two games of the series to remain in first place overall in the SEC. The Tide has a one-game lead over Florida and Ole Miss.
