Lillie Giles Lewis

Lillie Giles Lewis of Port Gibson died Friday, April 9, 2014.  She was 95.

Mrs. Lewis was born May 19, 1918, to the late John and Mariah Giles Sr. She was educated in the Claiborne County public school system.

She married Eddie Lewis Sr. in 1937 and had six children. She was a member of Magnolia Missionary Baptist Church, and later joined the First Seven Day Adventist Church of Port Gibson, where she remained a member until her death.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; five brothers, Taylor, Doc, Kernel, John and Columbus Giles; a sister, Malinda Giles; and a granddaughter, Myra Nicole Floyd.

Survivors include her sons, Charles and Vernon, both of Port Gibson; daughters, Shirley Lewis and Flora Lewis Gilliam, both of Port Gibson, Ella Lewis Selmon of Vicksburg, and Jessie Lewis of Battle Creek, Mich.; and one sister, Lucy Giles Thompson of Jackson; great-great-grandchildren; and relatives and friends.

Services will be 11 a.m.  Friday, April 18, 2014, at the First Seven Day Adventist Church. Burial will follow at Lewis Cemetery, Lewis Road, Port Gibson, under the direction of Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home of Vicksburg.

Visitation will be Thursday from noon to 7 p.m. with the family hour from 6 to 7 p.m. at the church.
