Task force raids home, Port Gibson man charged

A Port Gibson accused of having cocaine and more than a pound of marijuana was held without bail this morning.

Julius “Corky” Davis, 31, who lives on Royal Street in Port Gibson was arrested at about 4 a.m. Wednesday on a slew of drug charges and child endangerment, Claiborne County Sheriff Marvin Lucas said.

Davis, who was arrested by agents from North Central Mississippi Drug Task Force and Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department, is charged with possession of hydrocodone with intent to deliver, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of crack cocaine with intent to deliver and two counts of child endangerment.

Two children were in the home when narcotics agents arrived.

“He had two little kids in the house,” Lucas said.

Inside Davis’ home, agents found approximately 20 pills of hydrocodone, 10 grams of crack cocaine, 1.5 grams of powder cocaine, a .22-caliber rifle, a pound of marijuana.

Agents also seized nearly $2,000 in suspected drug money.

The drug charges have also been enhanced to include possession of a firearm while in possession of narcotics.

Davis was held without bail this morning in the Claiborne County Jail.

The bust is the second in two months involving the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department and the task force.

“We’re hopefully going to wipe all the drug dealers out and keep working until all these illegal drug stores are closed,” Lucas said.

 

Two burglars caught 

Two Vicksburg man accused of burglary were held without bail this morning.

Gregory Mason, 22, who lives on Drummond Street, and Deonte Drain, 19, who lives on Cedar School Circle, were arrested Wednesday and charged with burglary, Vicksburg police Lt. Sandra Williams said.

The pair is accused of breaking into a home in the 2900 block of Green Street at about 9 a.m. Thursday, Williams said.

When investigators arrived at the home on Green Street, the men fled on foot to Mason’s home in the 2900 block of Drummond Street and were arrested after a foot chase, Williams said.

“They went into that residence and were hiding,” she said.

Mason and Drain were held without bail this morning in the Issaquena County Correctional Facility awaiting their initial court appearance.

 

More stolen cars recovered

Two more cars that were stolen from a dealership on U.S. 80 were recovered Wednesday, bringing the total to six.

Warren County investigators found the two cars today at River Regional Medical Center, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Just after 9 a.m. Tuesday, 11 vehicles were reported stolen from River City Auto Sales, 520 U.S. 80. Four of the vehicles were recovered later Tuesday.

“We are still following leads and have investigators working on it,” Pace said.

Crime Stoppers will pay a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of a felony suspect or suspects.
