Meeting Monday, the Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen:

• Approved the minutes from the Feb. 25 board meeting.

• Received an update on the Vicksburg Police Department. Police Chief Walter Armstrong also introduced two new officers, Robert Starks and Wilmer McGlory.

• Took under advisement two bids to replace an ambulance body: Peach State Ambulance of Tyrone, Ga., $61,750, and Custom Truck and Body Works of Woodbury, Ga., $80,266.

• Took under advisement the following bids to install quick connects for sewer lift stations: Greenbriar Construction of Brookhaven, $168,550; Delta Constructors of Flowood, $163,855; and Hemphill Construction of Florence, $148,195. The board rejected a bid from 4-D of Louisville because it did not meet bid specifications, which required the name of the project the company was bidding on.

• Took under advisement the following bids for portable generators for city lift stations and a permanent generator for the Dorsey Street lift station: S/W Electric of Greenwood, $322,036.96; Coast Electrical of Perkinston, $246,286; and Chain Electric of Hattiesburg, $287,980. The board rejected bids from Electro Mechanical Inc. of Ridgeland, Killen Contractors of Brandon and Webster Electric of Collinsville, because they did not meet bid specifications, which required the expiration date of the company’s contractor’s license on the bid envelop.

• Heard a presentation from Mississippi faith-based program about its programs to assist homeowners and first-time homebuyers.

• Approved purchasing ads totaling $885 over three months on radio station V105.5 for the 2014 Miss Mississippi and Miss Outstanding Teen Scholarship pageants. The ads will be featured during contestant interviews on the radio.

• Authorized Mayor George Flaggs Jr., to sign an agreement with SentryNet to monitor the alarm system at the City Hall Annex.

• Adopted a preliminary order for a Freeport Warehouse tax exemption for Anderson-Tully Lumber on products manufactured here and sold out-of-state.

• Accepted an application from Anderson-Tully and adopted a preliminary order for an ad valorem tax exemption on plant improvements totaling $2.9 million.

• Approved a request from the Parks and Recreation Department to establish a $250 petty cash fund for swimming lessons at the city pool at City Park.

• Approved a request from parks and recreation to host the Fun Time Summer Camp and spend $500 for supplies.

• Approved paying the following requisitions: $8,107.50 to HD Supply of Jackson for water meters, and $12,008 to Andritz Separation Inc. of Arlington, Texas, for a roller for the sludge press at the water treatment plant.

• Approved 30-day extensions for property owners at 1301 Bay St. and 1323/1325 Fayette St.

• Authorized City Clerk Walter Osborne to advertise the notice of final settlement to Pavement Unlimited of Denham Springs, La., for work on the runway rehabilitation project at the Vicksburg Municipal Airport.

• Approved final payment of $382,141.35 to Siemens Industries for the city’s energy efficiency project.

• Approved $3,000 in sponsorship for the Miss Mississippi Outstanding Teen Pageant.

• Approved blocking the south lane of Clay and Monroe streets May 26 from noon to 5 p.m. for the grand opening ceremony for The House of Ribs.

• Approved a payment of $6,941.03 for the Vicksburg-Tallulah Regional Airport.

• Approved the claims docket.
