Rebels take series from Arkansas, 7-4

A shaky start gave way to a strong finish and a series victory for Ole Miss.

The Rebels gave up four runs in the top of the first inning, then scored seven unanswered runs of their own to beat Arkansas for the second straight day, 7-4 Saturday in Oxford.

Ole Miss (35-13, 15-8 Southeastern Conference) moved two games ahead of Alabama and LSU in the SEC West and will go for its second straight series sweep today.

Sikes Orvis homered for Ole Miss, his 12th of the season, and finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Christian Trent didn’t allow another run after getting out of the first, and lasted five innings to get the win.

Mississippi State 3, Auburn 0

Ross Mitchell threw his fourth complete game of the season, and Mississippi State (30-18, 13-10 SEC) shut out Auburn (25-22, 9-14) for the second consecutive day.

Mitchell allowed four hits, walked one batter and struck out four. He threw 132 pitches.

Tulane 5, Southern Miss 3

Stephen Alemais went 2-for-4, including a two-run double in the fourth inning that helped Tulane (19-25, 7-14 Conference USA) beat Southern Miss (28-20, 15-8).

Austin Roussel was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored for Southern Miss.
