Birta Mae Sanders

Birta Mae Sanders of Vicksburg died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at River Region Medical Center. She was 91.

She was a retired teacher for the Vicksburg School District and was a member of the Locust Grove M B. Church. She was a 1947 graduate of Alcorn A & M College and a 1974 graduate of Tuskegee Institute.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Houston and Evelyne Warren Bickham; her husband, Leon S. Sanders Sr.; and her brother, Odrey Bickham.

Survivors include three sons, Leon S. Sanders Jr. of Jackson, Samuel Alvin Sanders of Gainesville, Fla., and Robert Edward Sanders Sr. of Vicksburg; daughter, Evelyn C. Hall of Killeen, Texas; two sisters, Rose Lee Sanders of Brookhaven and Mary Harris of San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and others relatives and friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Jubilee Revival Center with the Rev. Robert L. Miller Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery under the direction of W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
