Laura Christian Jones

Laura Christian Jones died Tuesday July 1, 2014, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. She was 100.
She graduated from Bowman High School and attended and graduated from the Madam C J Walker School of Cosmetology in Chicago. She opened and operated a beauty shop Vicksburg for 30 years, was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church, and later a member and mother of Mount Carmel Ministries. She was a member of Vicksburg Chapter 1 of the Order of the Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary 213, and was a contributor to the best selling novel “Confederates in the Attic.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rueben and Illinois Duncan Christian; her husband, Floyd Jones; brothers John Christian, Leon Christian and Sam Christian; and sisters Ruby Marshall, Sara Ewell, and Eunice Thomas,
Survivors include her son John Christian Jones of Vicksburg, a grandson; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Mount Carmel Ministries Church with the Rev. Mitchell Dent officiating.
