Mary Lou Wells-Amos

Funeral services for Mary Lou Wells-Amos, 80, will be Saturday, July 19, 2014, at New Rock of Ages M. B. Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Kemp Burley officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be today at the funeral home from 2 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m.

Mrs. Wells-Amos, of Vicksburg, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at her home. She was a self-taught seamstress and had retired from J C Penny. She was a member of the New Rock of Ages M. B. Church, and an active member of the Sunday school until her health failed her. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 213.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harry Wells; mother, Minerva Cartwright Wade; brother, Alphonso Wells; and sisters Gloria R. Williams and Hattie Carroll.

Survivors include her husband, John Amos of Vicksburg; son, Derrick A. Wells of Columbus, Ga.; three stepsons, Shawn D. Dorsey of Vicksburg, John A. Williams of Las Vegas, and John M. Foster of Vicksburg; five daughters, Joanna C. Masten of Detroit, Carolyn Wells Price of Desoto Texas, Theresa “Terri” Wells, Jeraldine Wells and Gloria Wells Harris, all of Vicksburg; a stepdaughter, Shelia Lane of Arlington, Texas; brother, Julius Wells of Vicksburg; stepsisters, Lorrine Tate of Memphis, Tenn., and Dorothy Davis of Bluffton, S.C.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends, including members of the Cartwright, Doyle, Oliver , Brown, and Amos families of Vicksburg.
