Four held in city home invasion

Four Vicksburg men awaited bond today in Vicksburg Municipal Court after they were implicated in a home invasion Monday night on Locust Street.

Jim Levon Battle, 32, 409 Locust St., Shon Derrick Henderson, 35, both of 409 Locust St., Edward Tyrone Mazie, 30, 1103 First North St., Apt. 8 and Domonic Turner, 23, 202 Easy St., were held in Issaquena County Jail overnight after being arrested Thursday in the incident, Vicksburg police Lt. Troy Kimble said.

Battle entered the home of a former girlfriend at 404 Locust St. with the other three men, where he found her current boyfriend inside, Kimble said. He held the woman, whose name was not disclosed, at bay inside a closet while the others assaulted the current boyfriend, Kimble said. The woman escaped the closet upon the men’s departure, Kimble said.

City man held on drug charge

A Vicksburg man was held in Issaquena County Jail this morning on drug charges in the city.

Justin Williams, 29, 1325 Jackson St., was charged Thursday with possession of cocaine, Vicksburg police Lt. Troy Kimble said.

Kimble said police investigating reports of drug activity near 1401 Martin Luther King Blvd. saw Williams toss a plastic bag into a vehicle while he talked with the driver. Police arrested him soon thereafter, Kimble said.

Williams was on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections on similar charges, Kimble said.

 

City man to be sent to Indiana on old charges

A Vicksburg man held in Issaquena County Jail this morning will be extradited to Indiana for outstanding warrants, police said.

Arthur Lee Andrews, 34, 820 Polk St., was arrested at 1401 Martin Luther King Blvd., after reports of a disturbance just after midnight Thursday, Vicksburg police Lt. Troy Kimble said. A background check showed Andrews was wanted in Marion County, Ind. on various charges from April 2013 including resisting arrest and receiving stolen property, Kimble said.

 

City woman held on weapons charge

A Vicksburg woman was held in Warren County Jail on a weapons charge. Amanda Mullen, 34, 2160 South Frontage Road, was booked into Warren County Jail at 4 p.m. Thursday and charged with possession of a stolen firearm, jail records show.

No bond had been set.

 

Warren County teens say guilty to illegal gator, paddlefish harvest

Two Warren County teens pleaded guilty to misdemeanor wildlife violations this week in Warren County Justice Court.

One teen pleaded guilty to illegal harvest of an alligator and was fined $2,500, and the other was found guilty of illegal harvest of a paddlefish and fined $2,000, according to a Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks press release.

The Vicksburg Post in most instances does not identify people convicted of misdemeanors.

The teens were arrested on July 4 near Kings Point Ferry Landing.

 

Lawn equipment, gun, pool reported stolen in county

Four burglaries were reported Thursday in Warren County.

• At 11:28 a.m., a Glock handgun was reported missing from a pickup in the Cumberland Road area, Warren County Sheriff’s Department records show.

• At 12:48 p.m., an orange backpack was reported missing from a black GMC Sierra in the 100 block of Columbus Road, Warren County Sheriff’s Department records show.

• At 2:53 p.m., a Stihl weed trimmer was reported missing from a home in the 300 block of Honeysuckle Road, Warren County Sheriff’s Department records show.

• At 8:03 p.m., an above-ground swimming pool was reported missing from a home in the 100 block of Choctaw Circle, Warren County Sheriff’s Department records show. A renter of the home reported it missing to authorities after the owner of the home had gotten rid of it, the report said.
