Phone stolen in morning robbery

An armed robber was on the lam this morning after stealing a cellphone from a Vicksburg man.

At about 2:30 a.m. today, the armed robber ran up behind a man in the 300 block of Lakehill Drive, and stole an iPhone 5 valued at $400, Vicksburg police Lt. Beverly Prentiss said.

The robber was dressed in black and wearing a bandana over his face, Prentiss said.

The robber ran up behind the man, pushed him to the ground and kicked him before stealing the phone, she said.

The victim did not report being injured, Prentiss said.

A person of interest has been identified in the robbery, she said.

Anyone with information about the robbery is encouraged to call Vicksburg police at 601-636-2511 or Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 601-355-8477. Crime Stoppers will pay a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of a felony suspect. Callers remain anonymous and do not have to testify in court.

 

Father, son held in burglaries

A father and son accused of breaking into a house and a car were held without bail this morning.

Dwayne Thompson, 49, 1245 Mount Alban Road and his son Seth Cockerham, 25, 509 Newitt Vick Drive were arrested Wednesday and charged with burglary, Warren County Lt. Randy Lewis said.

They are accused of breaking into a home and vehicle in the 2200 bock of Mount Alban Road, Lewis said.

Property stolen in both burglaries was recovered, Lewis said.

Thompson and Cockerham were held this morning in the Warren County Jail awaiting their initial court appearances.

 

Guns, safe stolen from home

Three guns and a safe were missing this morning following a burglary in northern Vicksburg.

At 12:37 p.m. Wednesday, three guns with a combined value of $750, a Motorola cellphone valued at $200 and a safe containing an undisclosed amount of cash were reported missing from a home in the 200 block of Hills of the Valley, Vicksburg police Lt. Beverly Prentiss said.
