Fashion show fundraiser will feature former pageant contestants

Fall fashions will be modeled during a luncheon to raise money for the Miss Mississippi Pageant scholarship fund. The fundraiser, which is planned for Sept. 20 at the Vicksburg Convention Center will also serve as a welcome home party for 2014 Miss Mississippi Jasmine Murray.

“That’s if she (Murray) isn’t crowned Miss America,” said Tammy Wells, a local pageant director and one of the organizers for the fundraiser.

Sponsored by the Miss Mississippi Corporation and the Miss Mississippi Local Directors Association, Wells said a portion of the proceeds from the fundraiser would also go towards expenses incurred with Miss America Pageant preparations.

Murray is currently in Atlantic City for the two-week competition that includes parades, interviews, preliminary competitions and the final round of competition, which is set to air at 8 p.m. Sunday on ABC.

Wells said models for the fashion show will include the top 15 2014 Miss Mississippi contestants and the top 10 2014 Miss Mississippi’s Outstanding Teen contestants along with their prince and princesses.

Grace Munro will serve as the mistress of ceremonies, Wells said, and Greginald Spencer will be the entertainment for the event.

Spencer was one of the principle performers during the 2014 Miss Mississippi Pageant.

Tickets are $25 and are available at the Cricket Box, 3040 Halls Ferry Road, the pageant office, 820 South St. or by calling, 662-260-0711. Seating is limited and reservations should be made by Monday, said Wells.

The public is also asked to bring teddy bears as a donation for the Blair E. Batson hospital.
