The Women’s Auxiliary will be having their 35th annual Soup and Sandwich Luncheon, Silent Auction and Bake Sale Tuesday, Oct. 14 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Crawford Street United Methodist Church.
Judy Monroe, chairperson of the Women’s Auxiliary, said they are the fundraising branch of the Salvation Army.
“We have back-to-school drives every year, and a talent show at the Little Theater in February,” she said.
She also said they host the Christmas Angel Tree event.
This year, she said they hope to raise $10,000 to $15,000 this year at the Annual Soup and Sandwich Luncheon. The Women’s Auxiliary is also hosting a Silent Auction.
Second Vice-President, Martha Roberts said the items for the auction are donated by businesses and individuals in the community.
“Lots of hotels and motels donate stays. Hair salons donate haircuts and nail services,” she said.
In addition to these services, there are many handmade items to choose from such as paintings, pillows, and crocheted items such as hats, homemade quilts and hats.
Fundraisers are used for programs such as the Salvation Army’s Camp Hidden Lake, the Mission 66 Diner, the Angel Tree program, assistance programs for the elderly and needy, the food pantry and disaster relief. The Women’s Auxiliary also supports the youth program, Summer Soccer Camp/Vacation Bible School, and the Back-to-School Book Bag Drive.
To help the Women’s Auxiliary fund these programs and services, they ask for volunteers to help and for donations. Tickets can also be purchased for the Luncheon for $8, and are only available in advance.
Monroe hopes the luncheon will be a great success this year.
“We’re hoping to sell 700 tickets,” she said.
The menu for the luncheon includes homemade vegetable beef soup, homemade pimento cheese sandwiches, a cookie and a beverage. While there, the silent auction will be going on, and the bake sale will have baked goods available for purchase.
Donations for the silent auction are tax deductible and those who donate will receive a receipt.
