Rudolph E. Waters Sr.

LORMAN — Rudolph E. Waters Sr. died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, at River Regional Medical Center in Vicksburg. He was 82.

Dr. Waters was interim president at Alcorn State University from 1994-1995.  He served at Alcorn for more than 48 years, joining the administration in September 1957 as the dean of students.

He held influential positions such as dean of instruction, coordinator of Title III Programs, vice president, and retired from the post of executive vice president.

After retirement, he continued serving to the university as an executive vice president emeritus and a member of the ASU Foundation Inc. Board of Directors.

Dr. Waters is survived by his wife, Kathleen Waters of Lorman; a son, Rudolph Waters, Jr. of Alexandria, La.; a daughter, Veronica Waters of Atlanta; two brothers, Leonard Waters, Jr. and Melvin Waters, both of Chicago; six grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Services for will be 11a.m., Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at the Davey L. Whitney Health, Physical Education and Recreation Complex on the campus of Alcorn State University with the Rev. Elijah Brown officiating.  Burial will be at Carbondale Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson.

Visitation will be Friday, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home with the family present from 5 to 6 p.m., and Saturday at the complex from 10 a.m. until the service.
