In the driving rain of Southwest Mississippi, Porters Chapel Academy’s playoff hopes took a soaking.
Wilkinson County Christian forced three turnovers, stopped a key two-point conversion attempt late in the fourth quarter, and beat PCA 22-6 Friday night.
WCCA (1-4, 1-0 District 4-A) clinched a playoff berth with the victory, and eliminated PCA (1-4, 0-2) from contention for one of the district’s two automatic spots. PCA can still make the postseason as a wild card.
The Eagles didn’t score Friday until Zac Morgan threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Taylor Rushing with about 6 minutes left. Logan Pickering was stopped on the two-point try to keep the score at 16-6.
PCA got the ball back near midfield, but Morgan was intercepted with 3 1/2 minutes left and Wilkinson’s Rodney Boyd sealed the win with a TD run.
Pickering rushed 19 times for 89 yards for PCA, and also had 13 tackles on defense. Rushing had 55 rushing yards and 61 receiving yards, along with nine tackles.
SIA 54, Tensas 12
Jack Martin threw two touchdown passes and returned a kickoff for a score during Sharkey-Issaquena’s 38-point first quarter, and the Confederates (5-0) routed Tensas Academy.
Cooper Anthony ran for two touchdowns and Colby Clark had one for SIA. Martin was a perfect 5-of-5 passing for 94 yards and three touchdowns.
Tallulah 36, Franklin 22
