Bovina Elementary
• Our Bovina Giant leaders last week were Tori Lynn, Kaylee Johnson, Aaron Harmon, Devon Luster, Annalyn Nevels, Cali Grace Davis, Hannah Forbes, Brandon Johnson, Elaina Neal and Andrew Rainey.
• Our Bovina bucks leaders last week were Mrs. Bethany’s class and Mrs. Shelton’s class.
• We will have Report Card Parent Conferences for grades kindergarten through second grade on Thursday, October 16th and grades third through sixth will be on Friday, October 17th.  We look forward to sharing your child’s data and progress with you.
• Congratulations to our third and fourth grade football players for a 28 to 21 win.
• Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. Figures 4th grade students at Bovina Elementary School raised over $1,100.00 for the United Way of West Central MS during their September Service Project. The students presented the check to Michele Connelly, Executive Director, of the United Way of West Central MS on Wednesday, October 1st, 2014.

Bowmar Elementary
• Carolyn Bradley’s 5th graders and Diane Liddell’s 1st graders joined together to make “Apple Discoveries”. They observed, measured, weighed and tasted apples.
• Book Fair Coloring Contest Winners:  Oden Henderson, Emory Broadfoot, Matthew Fox, Katleyn Clark, JaKenya Bershell, Mary Katherine Archer, Rachel Garmon.  Way to show your creative side!!
• Report Card Night will be held on Tuesday, October 14th at 6:00. Parents are welcome to come and learn about their child’s progress in school.

Dana Road Elementary
• Kindergarten classes participated in apple-related activities as part of a recent unit.
• Kindergarten classes have planted bean seeds and are documenting growth.
• An AmeriCorps team is volunteering at Dana Road for the next seven weeks.
• Students are graphing perfect attendance and will be rewarded with a pajama party at the end of the month is they are at school all day, each day in October.
• Students are learning about Habit 3-Put first things first. Students are also applying for leadership jobs in the school.
• The 3rd grade music classes of Eleana Davis presented a program. Librarian, Mary Johnson presented a Reading Fair workshop for parents.

Jacob’s Ladder
• The students at Jacob’s Ladder had the opportunity last week to lend a helping hand to The Church of the Holy Trinity. We were excited to be able to unwrap candles for them.
• Our special friend, George Nuttall, will be leaving us and moving back to Tennessee. We are so grateful we got to know him better these past months and are looking forward to when he can come back and visit us.
• As a special treat during George’s last week with us, Pat Scallions made popcorn for us and we watched one of George’s favorite movies.

Porter’s Chapel Academy
• Eager Eagle of the week in the first grade class of Rebecca Pace was Peyton Machen.
• Students gave oral presentations of their nature boxes to the class after reading the story, “Todd’s Box”.
• Mrs. Pace demonstrated the art of crochet with wool thread during a unit of study on farm animals.

Redwood Elementary
• Morning Announcement leaders for the week were:  Jessiah Wilson, Haley Shipley, Ethan Puckett, Chloe Lingle, Gage Ashley, and  Landon Pettway.
• Redwood PTO and 4th grade students and teachers are sponsoring a fundraising night at Pizza Inn on Tuesday, Oct. 7th from 5-8 pm.  Please support Redwood through dining in, carry out, or delivery during those three hours.  10% of sales go our school!
• Mrs. Hughey’s 1st grade class tasted, compared, and graphed their favorite types of apple.  They also ate apple pies in honor of Johnny Appleseed’s birthday.
• Parent volunteers Kala Williamson and Anne Mayo read and helped give A.R. tests to Mrs. Schmidt’s kindergarten class.
• Kay Williams from the Mississippi Geographic Alliance taught mapping skills to GATES students in grades two through six.
• The next PTO meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 13th at 6:00 in the auditorium.  Members will vote on a slate of officers and get an important Turkey Shoot update. Turkey Shoot / Fall Carnival is Saturday, November 1st.  Please come and support Redwood while having a wonderful day!!

South Park Elementary
• 1st Grade Students are working on a KWL Chart about animals they are learning about in their story Animal Park.
• Third grade students have learned to use the Kagan cooperative learning structure of Quiz, Quiz, Trade with multiplication facts.
• Third grade students used macaroni to represent apostrophes during a study of possessive nouns that incorporated our reading stories and writing samples.
• This week Kindergarten students for math will be using objects and pictures to add and subtract to 10, using number words to make sense to problems, recognizing math in everyday life, reading and recognizing numbers 0-5, adding on, and counting to 100.  In reading, students will focus on letter/sound Pp. Sight words are we, my, and like. We will learn about animals that live in the grassland, main idea, compare and contrast, and respond to literature with writing. Students will continue to learn about plants and nature.

Vicksburg High School
• Guest speakers to the Mississippi River Class of VHS were the following:
• Deborah Cooper on the topic of “dams & reservoirs”
• Noah Vroman on “levees along the Mississippi”
• Brandon Davis on “ Justification Analyses of Water Resource Projects”
• Bill Frederick on “ Introduction to Meteorology”

Vicksburg Intermediate
• Pledge leaders for the week Y’Nnad Miller, Edna Adams, Jaedyn Cason, Tiara Sims, Jason Kennedy, Caleb Odom, Nicholas Mickey, Mackenzie Horn, and Ja’Michael Adams.
Bernard Powell presented a railroad safety program for third and fourth graders entitled See Tracks, Think Trains, Railroad Safety.
• Students who earned the September PBIS reward enjoyed eating a picnic lunch outside and extra recess time.
• Due to the termination of the IAL/Vicksburg Reads Grant, the VIS Library will close at 3:00 P.M. daily.
• October 15 will be a full day of school for students.
• The VIS PTO fundraiser information was sent home with students.  Parents are encouraged to support our school with this fundraiser.
• Students who have perfect attendance for the month of October will be rewarded by the PBIS Committee.
• Nine weeks tests will be given October 7-9 with the following schedule:  Tuesday, October 7 – Reading and Science; Wednesday, October 8 – Language and Social Studies; Thursday, October 9 – Math and Spelling.

Warren Central High School
• The First Nine Weeks Exam Schedule is as follows:  2nd & 4th period exams (Tues., Oct. 7); 1st & 3rd period exams (Wed., Oct. 8); 6th & 8th period exams (Thurs., Oct. 9); 5th & 7th period exams (Fri., Oct. 10).
• The Lady Vikes Volleyball Team will honor their senior players at the last regular-season home game on Tuesday, October 7, at 6:00 P.M. in Gym A.
• College and Career Night for the Vicksburg area will be Tuesday, October 7, from 5:30 to 8:00 in the VHS gym.  High school seniors and juniors interested in attending college will have the opportunity to meet college recruiters, check out programs, and find out about financial aid.

Warren Central Jr. High
• 9 weeks exams schedule:  Tuesday, October 7 – English; Wednesday, October 8 – Math and PE; Thursday, October 9 – Science, ICT, Fine Arts; Friday, October 10 – History.
• Report cards for the first 9 weeks will be issued October 17.
• All students are required to earn 10 AR points each 9 weeks.  Please encourage your child to read every day so that AR goals may be met.
• October 15 is a full day of school.  It had been scheduled as a 60% day but was changed to a full day by the school board.

Warrenton Elementary
