Social media is a way to connect with those around the world and on Saturday Vicksburg will be one of the more than 1,300 cities across the globe that will participate in the seventh Annual Worldwide Photo Walk, sponsored by Scott Kelby.

Kelby, who is the founder of the walk is president of Kelby One and is a number one bestselling photography and technology book author.  He leads a walk each year in a different city and credits the success and popularity of the event to the social aspect of photography, said David Rorick, the walk leader for Vicksburg.

The photo walk will begin locally at 10 a.m. and continue until noon. Participants are asked to meet at the Old Court House Museum lawn at 9:45 a.m.

“The event will include a series of historic buildings in the neighborhood. We will even get to shoot the Tiffany stained glass windows at Church of the Holy Trinity and at the end of the walk there will be an opportunity to chat and share our photos,” said Rorick.

Participation is limited to 50 photographers, said Rorick.

To sign up, visit http://tinyurl.com/vburgwalk or http://kelbyone.com/photowalk/ and enter Vicksburg or 39180 in the “find a walk” search window.

Participants will also be eligible to win prizes from the Worldwide Photo Walk’s sponsors if their walk leader chooses their photo as the best photo of the day, said Rorick.

Each winning walk photo is then entered into a global competition where Kelby will pick the single best photo of the event along with 10 runners-up.

Following the walk, Rorick said, “Everyone is invited to adjourn to Martin’s at Midtown. They will be open for lunch and beverages for those who would like to continue the celebration.”
