100714-galleryMAINEach year, the Attic Gallery celebrates their beginning with a themed art show and for the gallery’s 43rd anniversary, which will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, artists will create works of art representing songs.

“Name That Tune” will be the theme of the show said Lesley Silver, who is the gallery owner.

Those attending will be able to try and guess what song the artist is trying to portray, she said, and the titles will be revealed later in the evening.

The idea of the “Name That Tune” theme came from thinking about when the gallery first opened its doors, said Silver

“Because of our longevity, we thought back to other times and old TV shows popped into our heads,” she said.
“Name That Tune seemed to be an appropriate theme, because it passed all our requirements. It gives the artists full range over what they select to paint or draw and it gives the viewer an opportunity to interact with the art and become engaged in the interpretation process,” Silver said.

“Name That Tune” was an American television game show that got its start on the radio in 1952 and in 1953 moved to television.

Two contestants would compete against each other — testing their knowledge of songs.

Silver said more than 20 artists will be participating in the show.

Art pieces will include paintings, photography, glass mosaic and found art collage.

The event is free and will be held in Silver’s and Daniel Boone’s loft apartment, 1101 Washington St.
