Warren Central kept its faint playoff hopes alive Tuesday with a convincing three-game sweep over Murrah on senior night 25-22, 25-16, 25-20.

The Lady Vikes (10-12, 6-5 in division play) dominated the first two games behind solid rallies and clean service to dispose of the Mustangs in three straight sets. The two teams traded wins the past two years with Murrah edging Warren Central at home on senior night last season to end the year. Coach Matt Gullett made sure his girls were able to score some revenge this time around.

“One reason I scheduled them for senior night was I wanted to give my girls a chance to redeem themselves from last year, and for the seniors to end our home stand on a good note,” Gullett said. “Three straight sets against them, even having to fight back for the last one, I’m really proud of that.”

WC will wrap its regular-season schedule next Tuesday with a road game against Madison Central for a chance to sneak into the playoffs. Warren Central and Madison Central have nearly identical district records and will face off with a potential playoff spot on the line.

“We’re going over there with one thing in mind and that’s finishing the season with a win,” Gullett said. “Madison’s got a great team. We’ve played them once here. We know what they’ve got. We know what they can do. We know what we can do. It’s all depending on who shows up and who wants it the most.”

The Lady Vikes have been led all season by captain Shae Bracey, whose spike with Warren Central down 18-10 in the third game helped spark the comeback for the sweep.

“Just it being senior night, it was emotional,” Bracey said. “Then just being able to pick the team up and everything, it made everything better.”

Bracey has been WC’s anchor this year and is hoping her confident attitude and stellar play will help the Lady Vikes to a seemingly improbable playoff berth.

“We’ve got to make sure our mindsets are all in the right place, especially in practice. Make sure everybody is on the same page and go there and win.”
