Rhonda Gail Hanks Brasseal

Rhonda Gail Hanks Brasseal, age 48, died at her home in Petal on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014.

Rhonda was born Feb. 24, 1966, in Vicksburg to Richard L. and Sharon G. Hanks. She graduated from St. Aloysius High School and the University of Southern Mississippi, earning a bachelor’s degree in education.

Rhonda met David Brasseal in Columbia in Oct. 1994, and they married in Vicksburg on October 1995. They were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Anna Christine Brasseal in 1996. They made their home in Columbia, where Rhonda was teaching school and David was building a business.

Rhonda and David were deeply committed to marriage and a family centered on Christ. She was very involved and passionate about bringing others to Christ. She accomplished this through many endeavors including becoming a certified Christian Yoga instructor and through her daily walk with Christ. She is lovingly remembered by her husband as a Proverbs 31 woman.

Rhonda enjoyed cooking, gardening, paddle boarding, camping, hiking, biking, and spending time with family and friends.

Her cookbook, “Ten Pots,” was published in 2007. Rhonda wrote cooking articles for many newspapers, including the Clarion Ledger, the Columbian Progress, the Hattiesburg American, and the Vicksburg Evening Post. She was a beautiful person with a huge heart who truly enjoyed helping others.

Rhonda is survived by her husband, David Brasseal; daughter, Anna Brasseal; father, Richard Hanks; mother, Sharon Hanks; sister, Karen Biedenharn; brother, Richard “Tommy” Hanks; multiple aunts and uncles, including Peter and Susan Hanks of Hattiesburg; and multiple nieces and nephews, including Indy and Olivia Biedenharn of Vicksburg and Lee Hanks of Vicksburg.

Services are Friday Oct. 17, 2014. Visitation will be at Venture Church, formerly known as First Baptist Church of Hattiesburg, from 8 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m.

Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg.
