Reader supports park on old Hwy 80 bridge

The citizens voted years ago to reopen the Old River Bridge to vehicular traffic. The railroad threatened legal action if attempted, the Supervisors backed down. We, the citizens of Warren County, are bound by a 999-year lease with the railroad. The Vicksburg Post in the past mentioned revenue from the rental and also the millions of dollars the Bridge Commission had in the bank. At present we the owners are barely breaking even on our million-dollar investment. It is time for the citizens of Warren County to take back their control of the bridge by getting our congressional representatives on board and settle this highhanded control by the railroad and put the control of the bridge back to the owners, the CITIZENS OF WARREN COUNTY. I appreciate the efforts of the group mentioned in the paper and concur by having vehicular traffic and days set aside for biking, walking, running, wheelchair and handicap access. Since the Bridge Commission already has 24-hour personnel on board, these personnel could regulate dates for traffic/recreation use. Your supervisors email addresses are available by goggling Warren County Miss. and let them know how you feel.
